CLIMATE
The climate of Temuco shows marked differences between seasons, defining cold, temperate and warm months. Its climate characteristics are of two types: one temperate rain climate with Mediterranean influence, and another climate type which is observed in the intermediate zone, the temperate warm climate with a short dry season.

During the year there are marked temperature differences, the annual oscillation is of approximately 9° C between January and July for the average temperature. The annual thermal oscillation for the maximal average temperatures is 13° C and for the minimal average temperatures of 6° C. On the other side the extreme temperatures vary between -5º C and 37º C.

Precipitation could happen any month in the year, the annual average values reach up to 2000 mm, with a monthly distribution concentrated between March and November.
LANGUAGE
The official language is Spanish.
MONEY AND CHANGE
The Money unit is the Chilean Peso ($). Change of dollars can be done freely at banks and money exchange bureaus without need of presenting any special document. The suggestion is to change money only at banks, hotels and money exchange bureaus, not on the street. Presently there is no control for tourists changing money, they can enter or leave the country with local money, foreign money or any other means of payment.

Actualmente no existe control de divisas para los turistas, éstos pueden ingresar o salir del país con moneda nacional, extranjera o con cualquier otra forma de pago.

Commerce in general accepts credit cards like Visa, MasterCard, Diners, and some also American Express. Traveler checks are widely accepted.
CHILEAN TIME
Chile has two time zones depending on the time of the year:

Summer time: GMT minus 3 hours, from the second Saturday in October on.

Winter time: GMT minus 4 hours, from the second Saturday in March on.
SCHEDULES
Banks
Banks open from Monday to Friday from 09:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Money Exchange Bureaus
Money Exchange Bureaus open from Monday to Friday from 09:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm.

Commercial Centers
Commercial centers in general open from Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. On holidays, Saturdays and Sundays most of the commerce opens only in the morning, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and the malls open the same time as during the week.
HEALTH
There is neither obligation nor necessity of vaccination to enter Chile.

In the country in general and in Temuco specially there are no poisonous animals with the only exception of the “araña de rincón”, a little black spider, that only lives in dark spaces, moves slowly and is not aggressive, except when it is harassed. The few cases of this spider biting a person (not more than two a year) demonstrate the high level of hygiene of the population. The water in the city is totally potable. Nevertheless it is considered as hard – of high mineral content - by some people, so it is advisable to those with any problems to drink bottled water.

ELECTRICITY
The electric current is of the alternating type and has a voltage of 220V.
PHONE CODES
In order to call to Temuco from outside, you have to use de country code (56) plus the area code for Temuco (45). Communication between Chilean regions is possible through diverse companies or carriers that have different prices depending on the time of the call, ask for the fees before calling.
